Hezbollah’s Iranian, Syrian and Russian Connections

Just over one month ago on the 16th of June a pact was signed between the two countries those countries being Iran and Syria. That signed agreement would tie them together in the event of an attack from Israel against Syria. Iran said it would come to it’s defense and fund weapons that have come from Russia, China and the Ukraine. All the necessary ammunition and weaponry that Syria would need if it entered into a conflict with Israel would come from Iran via Lebanon. Syria agreed to this and let Iranian trucks pass through her borders via Lebanon unhindered. Hence Hezbollah is a very much needed group to have in Lebanon for Syria and Iran. As some have suggested, this war is the first Iranian war triggered on Lebanon soil.

In a press conference following the signing, the defense ministers stated that the agreement establishes “a joint [Iranian-Syrian] front against the Israeli threats,” and that “Iran regards Syria’s security as its own.” At the same time, the editor of the Iranian conservative daily Kayhan, who is close to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, repeatedly called to take action against “Zionist” commercial and diplomatic targets throughout the world.@MEMRI

Some have expressed that the war created by Hezbollah is a plan by Iran to destabilise the Lebanese Army and drag it into a war against Israel. This will destroy an already infiltrated Army with close to 20% influence of Hezbollah’s officers – Hezbollah has been slowly penetrating the Lebanese Army and Government during the last 16 years. This war could actually split the Lebanese Army which would then create a fractured Army and a de-stabilised country. The Lebanese Government would find it increasingly hard to resist an Iranian-Syrian backed Hezbollah militia to come into full power. This would also create such a fractured government and Army that the call to the Lebanese Government to disarm Hezbollah according to UN Resolution 1559, would be a call that an already weakened government would be unable to follow through with. This in turn could lead to an international force being deployed to return the balance of power and here enters the United Nations and all countries involved with the security council.

If Israel invades by land, it will find itself against a more aggressive Hezbollah than the one of the 1990s. Besides, Hezbollah will attempt nevertheless to go after the Seniora Government anyway. Calling on the “reserves,” Hezbollah enlisted President Lahoud and his son in law Defense Minister Elias Murr to drag the Lebanese Army in the War against Israel’s forces. And in collaboration with Aounist cadres (while the majority of his partisans are still stunned by the events), Hezbollah has unleashed an international campaign against the “inhumane aggression.” If things go well, Nasrallah expect Plan B to become Plan A, and a land advance by Israel would unleash a total offensive against the Government of Lebanon by pro-Iranian and Syrian forces. If Israel moves north to create a safe area against Rockets, Hezbollah would move north to control the rest of Lebanon. The Syrian-Iranian axis will refuse UNSCR 1559, reject international initiatives for disarming the militias, and will make its stand in Lebanon, even if the Switzerland of the Middle East is to be reduced to rubbles. Assad wants to save his regime in Beirut, and Ahmedinijad wants to shield his bomb in the Bekaa: Alea Jacta Est, the dice are rolling. @ Countertorrorism Blog

While all this was happening the G8 had come together to talk about Iran and its Nuclear Program but because of the latest outbreak between Hezbollah and Israel the Russian representative managed to divert their eyes away from the Iranian problem and sway them towards the current middle eastern conflict. Russia said it would help resolve the current crisis between Hezbollah and Israel with the other G8 members (and with Iran and Syria’s co-operation) as a consequence, the Iranian Nuclear Program was put on the back burner. The outcome was a win for Iran and the USA lost its battle against Iran and its Nuclear Program, which, Russia backs as legitimate anyway.

In discussions on Iran’s nuclear program, Russia consistently defended Iran’s interests and repeatedly expressed opposition to exerting pressure on Iran, demanding that a solution be reached by diplomatic means alone. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov even defended Iran’s right to defer its response until the end of August. Moreover, the Russian speakers defended not only Iran but also its protégés, Hamas and Hizbullah, and Lavrov went so far as to say that “there is no evidence of Iranian cooperation with Hizbullah.” (It should be noted that Russia does not include Hizbullah and Hamas in its list of terrorist organizations). Russia thus positioned itself as the superpower which is the patron of the Iran-Syria-Hizbullah-Hamas bloc. @MEMRI

As a side note, with all eyes off of Irans Nuclear Program this last week a truck filled with Radioactive material was stopped at the Bulgerian and Romanian border. The truck was bound for Tehran, Iran.

What is of interest is this, if an international force is to go into Lebanon, they go in with a lot more power after the G8 drew up an article called ” G8 Statement on Strengthening the UN’s Counter-Terrorism Program“. The trouble with this article is the fact that the UN has no real definition of Terrorism to go by at all, so what constitutes a terrorist organisation becomes quite blurry. As one saying goes ‘one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter’. Is it little wonder that Israel who has always be seen as the agressor according to the UN wants an European presence sent to the trouble area instead of the United Nations. Whether this happens or not is yet to be seen.

The Arab Terrorism Convention and the Terrorism Convention of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) define terrorism to exclude armed struggle for liberation and self-determination. This claim purports to exclude blowing up certain civilians from the reach of international law and organizations. It is central to interpreting every statement that states which have ratified these conventions make in any UN forum purporting to combat terrorism. @Straight UN Facts

So, while we watch and wait for the many stragedy’s that are unfolding before our very eyes, here are some points to consider:

  • The United Nations has been given more power for an international force to be implemented against any undefined terror organisation
  • Russia has blindsided the issue regarding the Iranian Nuclear Program and managed to put it on the back-burner for now (at least until August 22 when a major player called Javier Solana met up with Iranian Supreme Security Councel Secretary Ali Larijani on 12 of July to discuss the ultimatum after which Larijani went to Damascus to have talks with the Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad)
  • Iran is quickly building its Nuclear stock pile while continuing to speak out against Israel’s right to exist and with Israel now bombing Lebanon his rhetoric will be heard and sympathised with all the more by the Islamic world
  • Iranian backed Syria has said that if Israel sends a strong ground force into Lebanon it will consider war against Israel
  • Israel has entered Lebanon and secured towns to stop Hezbollah being re-armed by Syria. See map and Telegraphing the punch – IDF moving into southern Lebanon
  • And news just in… there is an unconfirmed report that sleeper Hezbollah cells all over the world may have just been stirred, especially in Europe so there may be a rippling effect around the world

Now I will just remind people that Israel is not only fighting Hezbollah in southern Lebanon but is also fighting against the Palestinians in Gaza because of rockets being hurled at Israel from the Gaza strip. Israel does not sleep.

Psa 121:4 Behold, He who keeps Israel will not slumber nor sleep.

Please keep informed and keep praying!
