Creationists are becoming like a cult…

A conservative evangelical seminary has just hired someone who has warned that Christians who deny scientific facts are in danger of becoming a "cult." This might suggest that Ken Ham and his Creation Museum in Petersburg, Ky., are becoming less relevant, as they speak for — and to — an increasingly smaller band of hyperconservative biblical literalists. Ham’s followers, ironically, are exactly what Waltke warned us about — a cult, with their own separate science. [source]

wonderful! I wonder if Richard Dawkins is considered of sound mind when he has suggested the possibility of Aliens seeding this planet?

  1. (I followed the first link)

“Waltke cautions, ‘if the data is overwhelmingly in favor of evolution, to deny that reality will make us a cult…some odd group that is not really interacting with the world.'” Clearly he is uncomfortable with the authority of scripture. Sounds like he desires the praises of men rather than God. Very sad.

He continues…”And rightly so, because we are not using our gifts and trusting God’s Providence that brought us to this point of our awareness.” Does any one else think this sounds weird? What awareness is he talking about?

    And finally, from your post:

“Ham’s followers….” Their attacks are sounding increasingly desperate.

  2. Did you notice that your source makes this statement in their second paragraph, “Widespread rejection of evolution, to take a familiar example,…” before later claiming “Ken Ham and his Creation Museum in Petersburg, Ky., are becoming less relevant, as they speak for — and to — an increasingly smaller band…,” in their fourth paragraph?

I guess consistency doesn’t matter to your source, since they’re just making things up as they go.

Incidentally, the Answers in Genesis subscription base for their Answers Magazine has been continually growing. I’ve recently written an article on the latest scientific breakthrough, showing that it is Creationists and not Evolutionists who understand science. Here’s the link if you’re interested:

By the way I have had someone comment on an older post of mine found here:

I have limited time to reply as of yet, as I am a wife and mother of three adult children who still live at home with one baby grandson who is thirteen months old who I look after a great deal. He takes up much of my time.

I just received an email from Lita Cosner
      Information Officer
Creation Ministries International who was willing to help me, she addresses each of the issues in that comment. I am yet to put it up… but hope to do so soon.

      • Hey, we just got a puppy…now that’s a handful! 😉

I read that comment the other day, Vee. I’m glad there will be an intelligent reply forthcoming (I don’t understand aerodynamics but I’ll get on the plane anyway – as long as it doesn’t fly over the ocean ).

  3. “Ham’s followers”?

More accurately, these are just Bible believers who happen to appreciate those involved in creation ministry, Ken Ham being one of many (and probably the most visible one since his excellent, but much hated, museum opened).

As far as cults go, don’t they ex-communicate members who don’t agree with them? Sounds more like today’s science community that dismisses their colleagues for even MENTIONING Intelligent Design, while their best minds have enough faith to believe that life was planted by aliens.

Now which bunch is the religious cult?

By the way, here’s another interesting link to check out on this topic:

I consider Carla to be one of my best friends, and I know one day I will get to meet her for real, whether it be in this life of the next.

    • Not embarrassed at all Pearl. It’s nice to have some personal comments here on my blog. I LOVE it actually.

I am just working on the rebuttal for that comment the other day. I am pretty much just copying and pasting answers to the claims made. As you all know, my time is limited. Before the Oliver came along I could have all my books laid out on the couch and type away at my laptop. But now at 13 months old he can pull himself up to just the right height to grab the laptop and books. Basically, I can just do this when he is in his highchair, or asleep. But when he’s asleep, I have house chores to do… so my life has changed considerably.

Anyway, I have to go and change a smelly bum! But perhaps I can squeeze out that rebuttal before he starts getting vocal!

      Take care my friends

      Vee
