It's a term "borrowed" from the science community's never ending quest for a complete theory that "ties" everything together in a unified explanation of the universe and how it works: theory of relativity, chaos theory, etc. When you look at the schema of learning as classified from the ancient medievil disciplines, you can see once a theory gets accepted by one discipline as a filter of looking at things, it usally leaps from one discipline to the next, affecting that viewpoint as well till a new word is chosen to represent the viewpoint, like postmodernism, etc. Science is heavily involved (and has been the last few years) of looking for a "unification theory" that bridges all the "gaps". This is "nothing new under the sun" (Ecc) Your reference to the form of "New Age Chrisitanity", the "Integral type", sounds like its part of this movement . This again is something old dressed up to look as new to people. But then, that's how Satan works with lies. As M. Scott Peck wrote in his book "People of the Lie" of evil as a "boring litany of lies." It' just a matter of recognizing them. People have a tendency to look outside of themselves for the explanation of "why" when events and experience become confusing. And what this is is the hunger for spiritual things gone wrong. The hunger winds up fragmenting into only for the intellectual side or only for the mystical side when it must be both in balance and the satisfying answer found in Christ. Chesterton has a marvelous passage in Orthodoxy that explains this. Your comment about deconstructism and then reconstructionism is very apt! Satan knows that the hunger is there for the "why" but he offers to fill it with what only appears to be satisfying. Let us pray that all see the "bitterness" of this "water". It is not the living water of Christ.

These are such encouraging posts and I am really grateful to know such Christian warriors!

Someone recently brought out a great point about how our peace of mind is under attack a lot more these days. I know I feel that struggle from time to time in the great spiritual battle. When I read your post, Vee, it struck me that your dad is searching for peace, a sort "unification theory" to explain the confusion he must see around him in the world. It is, after alI, formidable. So I see this as a very positive thing! It means he hasn't turned off to his spiritual need (Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs in the Kingdom of God). As Lewis brings out in the "Last Battle" this is when we struggle with a corruption of the mind, but the heart is still longing for God. As God does with us all, He will find where we have a need for spiritual cleaning and correction and bring it out to be corrected. This may be a long process with your dad, but the Bible promises victory if we don't give up. So this can still be turned around. Pray for the Spirit to direct your conversations with your dad ("a word at the right time for it" and "know when to speak and when to keep quiet." Ecc.) There is a story of a famous missionary who got mixed up with a man who tried to undermine his faith. His parents prayed for him and never gave up. The long and the short of it was that God used the same person who had undermined this man's faith to be the instrument of his return to Christ!

God bless you, Vee, and keep your chin up!

Hi again, I can in some way identify with the things you are going through with your Dad, as I had a very difficult time trying to witness to my father. I loved him dearly but found him to be so hard to reach with the truth. Because I live in Australia and he lived back in Ireland, I had limited opportunities to speak with him, but I did what I found opportunity to and continually kept him in my prayers. The last time I saw him alive, he told me he believed in Jesus and I have to leave it at that as I will only know how real that is when I go to my eternal home. I firmly believe that where the Word is planted it will bring forth fruit and even though your Dad seems to be looking in the wrong places and not showing any signs of being a believer, his heart can be weighing things up differently to what his actions are portraying. I will keep him in my prayers, God bless you and yours, Vince.

p.s. I had a look at your friend's site (Mellie is it?) Is she Irish, as I notice she has a gaelic greeting in all her posts???

Be your dad mythical or mystical, but tell him to be practical too. It needs tactics but he should not be tactical too. Philosophy is diffenitly there but be not philosophical too. My words are not poetry but expression poetical too.
Remember two and two make a four and sometimes twenty two too.
God bless your father and you too.

Oh, thank you Jen.

As far as the gear goes, I am right with you on that one. The post above this one I have referenced those verses.

We are in a battle here, for sure.

By the way Jen, you have a really good blog, and one that I enjoy reading. Your last post "When all else fails" is one that I am sure many people can relate to.

I will definitely keep your Dad in my prayers. I think there is nothing more heart-wrenching than to see a loved one perhaps contemplating embracing "another" gospel. Remember, it is a spiritual battle and I would encourage you to continue not only to pray for your Dad but also to fast. Some things can only be fought in the spriritual realm so perhaps it is time to put the battle gear on! God bless! ~Jen
