Living Journey

The Enviro Narrative

Something that Dr Calvin Smith has written about lately is the environmental issue, the current one, there have been a few different views in the last 30 years or so.  He says

Some of you know I have a major problem with the concept of man-made global warming. No, that’s not quite true, actually. My real problem is how even mild dissent or doubt is pounced upon and vilified as utter heresy by Enviro-Fascists in a display which would make certain medieval, torture-driven ecclesiastical institutions proud.

He’s quick to point out, and rightly so, that as Christians we should take care of God’s creation because we are stewards of it.  I believe that.  I do hate pollution, believe me, I live on a main road and I hate it when cars go by with smoke trailing behind, I am sure that is as bad for you as smoking. I hate litter, and think that we should be careful and recycle as much as we possibly can.  We should all do our bit to help.

But many Christians have made the whole saving ‘Mother Earth’ thing into THE gospel. And he warns…

Their instincts and motives are partially correct, namely, that Christian theology does have something to say about dominion, care for and protection of the world God has given us. Yet they have allowed a largely atheist or post-Christian, pagan `geolatrous’ (worship of the earth) lobby to dictate and drive the agenda. Subsequently, there is a near total absence of Christian teaching and study of environmental issues that do matter from a biblical perspective, namely, good stewardship of resources, waste, personal responsibility and pollution. Instead we are all out chasing the rainbow.

He thinks that it is about to unravel with different views being heard now as more scientists are questioning the data.

Hot then cold then hot again. Oh boy…how can the average person keep up with all of this?
