Mr Blair said there could be a new “partnership” with Iran if it stopped supporting terrorism in Iraq and gave up its nuclear ambitions. Syria and Iran could choose partnership or isolation, he said.

We’re depicting Blair above as being reminiscent of another British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain. From Wikipedia:

Chamberlain is perhaps the most ill-regarded British Prime Minister of the 20th century, largely because of his policy of appeasement towards Nazi Germany regarding the abandonment of Czechoslovakia to Hitler at Munich in 1938.
On returning from Munich, Chamberlain declared: “I believe it is peace in our time.”

A few posts back I mentioned how Nazi Germany managed to be ligitimised by the West which effectively pulled the wool over the West’s eyes, is this starting to happen again? This is what I said in regards to appeasing nations:

[C]ountries and their governments want to be legitimised [...] Hitler did this with the help of the Olympic Games in 1936 - Hitler managed to integrate his nation symbolically and also built up the people living in Germany at the time, the medals were secondary to the points he wanted to make.

Another example is George Bush Sr. who had the same foggy idea when it came to Saddam Hussein, Bill Clinton too, had the same idea in regards to North Korea, he wanted that country to become more co-operative so he extended concessions.

Now it seems it is happening again with different countries (Recently we have had Rick Warren doing the same). This is what Benjamin Netanyahu the leader of the Likud Party said recently about his observations regarding Iran and Nazi Germany:

Rick Warren making new friends

warrensyria.jpg Rick Warren has been a little busy lately. The news is, is that he is having little chats with Syrian Grand Mufti Sheikh Badr al-Din Hassoun. I wonder if Rick Warren knows that Syria is a nation that has ties to Iran and ties with Hezbollah? Syria has helped Hezbollah with weaponry that has come from Russia, Ukraine and China — Syria also helps with training Hezbollah fighters. What is their goal …. yes, you guessed it, to get rid of Israel, they don’t want Israel on the map at all. More on that later.

This from Council on foreign Nations:

Syria—along with Iran—gives the Lebanese militia Hezbollah “substantial amounts of financial, training, weapons, explosives, political, diplomatic, and organizational aid,” according to the State Department. Iranian arms bound for Hezbollah regularly pass through Syria, experts say. Syria, which has effectively occupied and controlled neighboring Lebanon since 1990, has also let Hezbollah operate in Lebanon and attack Israel, often ratcheting up regional tensions. Hezbollah’s July 2006 strikes on Israel prompted allegations that Syria and Iran were using the group to deflect international attention from other issues, such as Iran’s contentious nuclear program. @Council on Foreign Nations

On July 24th I had posted the connection between Hezbolla, Iran, Syria and Russia, and had made note of the contract signed on the 16th of June of this year between Iran and Syria. Also interesting to note is that Walid Phares from Counterterrorist Blog stated some time ago that one goal of Syria and Iran is to use Hezbollah to destabilise an already fragile Lebanese government and army, which would then be open to build a more, shall we say, fundamentalist rogue nation. So, my eyes are directed at Lebanon once more.
