The UN, Hezbollah and Iran

In this picture taken in Beirut in 2000, Kofi Annan is thanking Nasrallah, head of the terror group Hezbollah for Maintaining law and order in the south of Lebanon. So, in 2000 Kofi Annan acknowledged that the terror group Hezbollah was responsible for Maintaining law and order in southern Lebanon, but it is now ISRAEL which is undermining the country’s sovereignty? And just in case you were wondering why Israel would fire at an UN post there was a press release by the United Nations saying that Hezbollah was close to an UN post and were firing from there:

Another UN position of the Ghanaian battalion in the area of Marwahin in the western sector was also directly hit by one mortar round from the Hezbollah side last night. The round did not explode, and there were no casualties or material damage. Another 5 incidents of firing close to UN positions from the Israeli side were reported yesterday. It was also reported that Hezbollah fired from the vicinity of four UN positions at Alma ash Shab, Tibnin, Brashit, and At Tiri. All UNIFIL positions remain occupied and maintained by the troops. And for more information on Hezbollah’s strategies I have found a site with a sound file for you to listen to. It confirms the above quote in saying that the UN was taking on fire from within – found below is a quote from Retired Canadian General Mackenzie during a radio interview. He also addresses the dis-information that is currently being aired across the globe by the MSM, which I agree is happening because our media is very one-sided and I have to dig further to find out what is really going on. It brings to mind the old saying “The first casualty of war is the truth” Anyway, here is the interview and the web-site for you to check out :

We received emails from him a few days ago, and he was describing the fact that he was taking fire within, in one case, three meters of his position for tactical necessity, not being targeted. Now that’s veiled speech in the military. What he was telling us was Hezbollah soldiers were all over his position and the IDF were targeting them. And that’s a favorite trick by people who don’t have representation in the UN. They use the UN as shields knowing that they can’t be punished for it. (To hear the interview go to @LGF)

Now to Iran. CNN has said that there are some Iranians that are volunteering to fight against Israel, they plan to go the Turkey first as they don’t need a visa and can stay in Turkey for up to three months without a visa, then on to Lebanon via Syria. At a guess, I figure that we will be hearing a lot more rhetoric from within Iran and possibly from Syria too- indirectly that is:

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Surrounded by yellow Hezbollah flags, more than 60 Iranian volunteers set off Wednesday to join what they called a holy war against Israeli forces in Lebanon. The group — ranging from teenagers to grandfathers — plans to join about 200 other volunteers on the way to the Turkish border, which they hope to cross Thursday. They plan to reach Lebanon via Syria on the weekend. Organizers said the volunteers are carrying no weapons, and it was not clear whether Turkey would allow them to pass. A Turkish Foreign Ministry official, speaking on condition of anonymity, would not say Wednesday if Turkey would allow them to cross. Iranians, however, can enter Turkey without a visa and stay for three months. Iran says it will not send regular forces to aid Hezbollah, but apparently it will not attempt to stop volunteer guerrillas. Iran and Syria are Hezbollah’s main sponsors. @CNN

And if you think that Hezbollah are a poorly organised army, well you had better think again. According to the Israeli army they are fighting like a professional army, this is what Bill Roggio has to say at the Counterterrorism blog:

The Israelis have confirmed that Hezbollah is fighting like a professional military. Their units are fighting at the company level at the least (Unit size of approximately 100 men), and perhaps in larger formations. Intelligence also confirms there is specialization within the Hezbollah units, including trained infantry, mortar teams, missile squads, and logistical personal. Iran has trained and organized Hezbollah’s army into something far more deadly than a militia force. Hezbollah’s core ‘active’ army is estimated at 3,000 – 5,000, with as many as 50,000 part time militia and support personnel that can be called upon to fight (20,000 is the average estimate).@ Counterterrorism Blog

And to a name that has piqued my interest and keeps popping up Javier Solana, heard of him I mentioned his name briefly as a major player in these world wide events. He is extremely powerful in the EU and NATO:

Officials in Brussels told The Associated Press that Javier Solana, the EU foreign and security affairs chief, will propose that a rapid reaction force be established. It would ideally be built around French, German and Spanish troops, supplemented by forces from Turkey, the Netherlands, Canada and Arab states such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia, EU officials said. Solana said Tuesday that an international force for Lebanon should represent a broad sweep of nations to generate the widest possible public support in the Middle East and have a robust United Nations mandate to use force, if necessary. He gave no details of timing or duration of any peacekeeping mission. @ Yahoo News

And of those sleeper cells I mentioned two days ago it seems that there is more evidence from German intelligence:

“Sleeper’ cells belonging to militant Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah are present in Western Europe, Latin America and in southeast Asia and been ordered to be ready to carry out terrorist attacks should Israel prolong its military offensive against Lebanon, according to unnamed German intelligence sources.” While “unnamed German intelligence sources” isn’t ideal confirmation, Germany is known to have decent intelligence assets in the Middle East.” @Counterterrorism Blog
